WE LOVE PLAYGROUNDS

Off so many entertainment places for boys like us, we love the playgrounds the most. There are few places that provide playgrounds for kids around Kota Kinabalu. These playgrounds great for an energetic kids like us to shed down some extra energy. Most of the playgrounds are easily accessible from our home. And the most important things are it’s free! Almost all of the playgrounds we have been before were accommodated with recreational and exercise places suitable for all ages. Let’s check out some of the playgrounds that are open for public.

1. Perdana Park Playground

Perdana Park located near infamous Tanjung Aru beach, approximately 10KM from city centre and 10KM from Kota Kinabalu International airport. There are two playgrounds for kids below 12 years old in Perdana Park. It’s a huge playgrounds and one of the playground complete with cylindrical and tubular slide. The other playground a bit smaller and more suitable for preschooler. You can easily spend two to three hours playing here (Note: For kids not for adults though). Part of the playgrounds, there are also few stalls selling bubble for kids. The price range from RM3 to RM8 per bowls depends on the size of the bowls. There are big spaces for kids to running around at the park.

How to get there? The park is easily accessible with public transport. You can go by bus which will cost you RM1.50 one way from Kota Kinabalu city. But bear in mind, Kota Kinabalu public transport not as good as the other city in Malaysia particularly in Kuala Lumpur. We are not recommended it if you are in time constrain. Taxi will charge you approximately RM15 one way (up to four people). You can take Grab or Uber from city center that will cost you around RM8 to RM10 one way (up to four people).

Entrance fee? The park itself is free. You can park your car in the designated parking for the cost as low as RM1 per entry if you are driving. So cheap! There are two rest rooms at the both side of the park fully equipped with disability toilet and cost RM0.50 per entry.

Other things to do in Perdana Park:

Jogging track – It’s one of the nicest jogging track in Kota Kinabalu with approximately 2 – 3 Km distance. The tracks are soft and you can jog in ease while pushing your baby stroller. There are lamps post along the jogging track makes it convenient for people who jog in the late evening.

Musical water fountain – a fountain is synchronized with the accompanying music and light. After your routine jogging or witnessing sunset at Tanjung Aru beach, you can just sit around the fountain and enjoy the musical and lights. Maybe you can enjoy some steam corn or fruits you can buy from the stalls along the Tanjung Aru beach. The fountain open every day from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and they will played for 20 minutes in 10 minutes interval.

Eateries – there are few restaurants open in Perdana Park. Do not worry if you getting hungry after playing at the playground or finish your jogging. There are Secret Recipe, Bobacha, Lyndora Cakes & Cookies and Inch coffee bar. The price is reasonable and almost the same with the restaurant outside of the park. Most of the restaurants are children friendly. Ody also have his 5th birthday at Lyndora Cakes & Cookies. We are planning to play (until you are collapsed literally) after or before eating all the cakes and chocolates. Unfortunately, it’s raining all day long. So, we were just sitting inside the restaurant and watching the musical fountain.

The Journey Begins

This is Mount Kinabalu, located at Kundasang, Ranau. My mom hometown. It’s take approximately 2 hours from Kota Kinabalu to Kinabalu National Park. You can take taxi, bus or rent a car and drive by yourself. Will explain more about this mountain in my other post. The mountain is one of the highest peaks in Southeast Asia with its summit sitting at 13,435 feet (4,095 meters).
